Tim Challies on The Kindle
A couple of months ago I traded my Kindle to a friend for a stack of old-fashioned ink-on-paper commentaries. This is now. I think I made a good trade. He is enjoying the Kindle and I am enjoying the commentaries. Win-win. Something changed between then and now—I came to see that all of the things that frustrated me about the Kindle were things that made it not like a book. It’s book-like qualities were it’s best qualities; it’s non-book-like qualities were the ones that got to me.

I would agree that the Kindle will never replace a good book. The feel and look of a book is just important as the content. I really like the kindle for several reasons though. First, it makes traveling so much easier. I read multiple books at a time and dont want to lug all these books every time I travel. Second, I am a consumer of information. I use the Kindle for magazines, newspaper, and other books where I am trying to absorb info in a timely manner. I enjoy the fact that all of these things are located in one space. Finally, I enjoy technology and anything innovative. The Kindle certainly is innovative. My dad owns a bookstore and I own a lrage number of books. The Kindle will never replace my library, but it certainly adds to the enjoyment of the written word.
