Al Mohler looks at one of Details magazines cover stories this month, titled Would You be Okay with a Gay Kid?:

Details magazine is an American version of what the Brits call “laddie mags” — rather racy magazines that present a vision of what the good life is supposed to look like for young adult males. The magazine features an assortment of articles on male fashion, gear, lifestyle issues, and entertainment. Like most of these magazines, glossy advertising takes up much of the magazine.

The cover of this month’s issue includes this interesting question: “Would you really be okay if your kid was gay?” That a magazine of the cultural left (at least on lifestyle issues) would even ask such a question is fascinating in itself. The content of the article is even more fascinating.

I was looking around for something today on Christian music, and I ran across an article by Steve Camp titled, A sad fad: “God is my Girlfriend” songs. I thought I’d share it with you, as well as file it away for my own future reference; particularly, this part which brings together a number of Scripture references regarding the purpose of music in worship:

What makes music Christianly? A few brief things I’d like to mention (with more to follow in a follow up article). It must speak first and foremost about the Lord (Ex. 15:2); has as its theme the Word of God (Psalm 119:54); finds its highest expression in worship and praise (Psalm 119:172; Psalm 2:11-12); bring glory to God (Psalm 103); exalt Christ (Rev. 5:9-14); is rooted in Scritpure (Col. 3:16-17); and comes from a Spirit-filled holy life (Amos 5:21-24; Eph. 5:17-21).

Christianity Today is covering a shift in ministry at Willow Creek:

For three decades Willow has been focused on making the church appealing to seekers. But the research shows that it’s the mature believers that drive everything in the church—including evangelism.

Hawkins says, “We used to think you can’t upset a seeker. But while focusing on that we’ve really upset the Christ-centered people.” He spoke about the high levels of dissatisfaction mature believer have with churches. Drawing from the 200 churches and the 57,000 people that have taken the survey, he said that most people are leaving the church because they’re not being challenged enough.
