Faith and fear go hand in hand. Faith keeps the heart cheerful, fear keeps the heart serious. Faith keeps the heart from sinking in despair, fear keeps it from floating in presumption.
Thomas Watson, All Things For Good, 1663

Faith is like Goofus, fear is like Gallant.
Faith is the peanut butter middle, fear is the thin candy shell.
Faith says “Yes, yes, yes, this rocks!” Fear says “No, no, no, don’t stop rocking!”

I’m not so sure that faith is fear’s opposite. I suggest that love may be its opposite. (I’ve elaborated on my site, if you are interested.)

Welcome back, Wes! Long time.
I don’t think that Watson is necessarily saying that faith and fear are opposites; rather, that they are companions that complement one another.

Sorry, misread the post.
Ok. I see what you mean now. Much the same way that the Word and prayer work together to keep someone on the proper course. Word apart from prayer becomes legalistic, prayer apart from the word becoming flaky.
Both together give a balanced Christian walk.
